Chinese New Year – Liverpool

Kung Hei Fat Choi and welcome to the Year of the Rabbit!

A nice way to spend a couple of hours on a dreary Sunday afternoon was my trip into Liverpool’s Chinatown to join in with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Say Cheese!

Colourful and noisy dragon dancers parading along Berry Street and Nelson Street were really entertaining. A great workout too for the dancers! The dragon parade culminated in a dance and firecracker display in Nelson Square at the bottom of Nelson Street.

Just a little disappointing that the dancing was not on a raised stage as little ones (I am talking about me!) could not see the dancing unless they were at the front.

Lots of activities at the Black E too. A Tai Chi display was held in the main hall. This is held every Sunday in Chinatown at 11-00am. Lovely music on traditional Chinese harp kept us entertained along with the cheapest cup of tea in the city, only 50p!!!! Well done Black E. I also met Joan Chan and bought her book, East Meets West, a celebration of Chinese culture and literature and its parallels in Western culture.

A great way to chill out on a Sunday lunchtime.

Now to the pub to watch Liverpool thrash Chelsea!!
